Phillips Contribution
The scope of work for Phillips on this project included stripping vegetation, identifying and removing unsuitable materials within the foundation, and filling out the foundation with dozer-placed fill. Additionally, Phillips placed compacted sand tailings fill and compacted overburden fill using CAT 657 scrapers and haul trucks.
Phillips implemented mud wave techniques to shift large quantities of waste clay materials out of the dam's footprint and into secluded areas within the interior of the storage area. These methods enabled Phillips to establish a suitable foundation for the dam while minimizing the loading and hauling of the waste clays. Phillips also worked closely with owner and engineer representatives to create a team approach to the work, which allowed all parties to evaluate unique solutions to reduce costs and schedule throughout the project duration.
Additional scope also included dewatering, spillway structures, erosion controls, and seeding.
